Updated October 2026. Verve label facts checked on vavaverve.com on 22 October 2026. Verve makes creatine stick packs, covered near the end.

To choose a creatine product, make three label checks: how much creatine is in a daily serving, what else is in it, and whether the brand will show you a test certificate for your batch. Creatine monohydrate is the most common form in UK shops, sold as powder tubs, capsules, gummies and stick packs. The GB health claim for creatine and high intensity exercise depends on a daily intake of 3g of creatine, so 3g a day is the baseline. After that, the choice is about format, flavour and how much testing detail you want.

The short answer

  • Form: creatine monohydrate is the most common and the easiest to check, as it is often the only ingredient.
  • Dose: at least 3g of creatine a day. Most powders and stick packs give 3-5g per serving.
  • Format: check the creatine per serving, not the weight of a gummy or capsule.
  • Testing: ask for the certificate of analysis for your batch.
  • Price: compare the cost of 5g, not the cost of the pack.

What creatine is, and the claim you can rely on

Creatine is a compound your body makes, and it is also found in meat and fish. Diets with little or no meat and fish contain very little. A supplement adds a measured amount on top.

The authorised GB health claim reads: "Creatine increases physical performance in successive bursts of short-term, high intensity exercise." It comes with conditions. The beneficial effect is obtained with a daily intake of 3g of creatine, and the claim applies to adults performing high intensity exercise. So the first check on any product is whether a daily serving gives you at least 3g of creatine.

Creatine forms

The form is the chemical version of creatine in the product. It is in the ingredients list.

Form What it is What to check
Creatine monohydrate Creatine bound to one water molecule. The most common form in the UK. About 88% creatine by weight, so 5g gives about 4.4g of creatine.
Creatine hydrochloride (HCl) Creatine bound to hydrochloric acid. Often sold in smaller servings. About 78% creatine by weight. Check a daily serving reaches 3g of creatine.
Creatine ethyl ester Creatine with an ethyl group attached. Less common today. The extra group adds weight. Check the label states creatine per serving.
Buffered creatine Creatine monohydrate mixed with an alkaline powder to raise its pH. Check what the buffer is and how much creatine each serving gives.

You will also see creatine nitrate, malate and magnesium creatine chelate. The rule is the same: find the creatine per serving, not just the weight of the compound.

Creatine formats

Powder tub

Loose powder with a scoop, so you choose the amount. Check the scoop matches the serving size on the label, and keep the lid closed so the powder stays dry.

Capsules and tablets

Each capsule holds a small amount, so you often need several to reach 3g a day. Check the creatine per capsule and the number of capsules per serving.

Gummies

A gummy's weight is not its creatine content. A gummy also contains sugar or sweeteners, a gelling agent such as gelatine or pectin, flavourings and colours. Look for the creatine per gummy and how many make a daily serving. In water, creatine slowly turns into creatinine, faster when warm and acidic, and gummies are made with heat, water and often acid. Ask for a recent certificate of analysis showing the creatine in the finished gummy.

Stick packs

Single servings of powder in a sealed stick. No scoop, the same amount every day, and a stick fits in a pocket. The trade-off is more packaging per serving than a tub, and you cannot adjust the amount. Our creatine stick pack comparison sets the UK options side by side on the label.

What to check on the label

  • Creatine per serving. The grams of creatine in one daily serving. The claim's condition is 3g a day.
  • Per serving, not per unit. For gummies and capsules, multiply the creatine per unit by the units in a serving.
  • Purity. Some brands state a figure, such as 99.9%. A certificate of analysis showing it for your batch is better.
  • Mesh size. Mesh describes how fine the powder is. The higher the number, the finer the particles, so 200 mesh is finer than 80 mesh and stirs into water more easily. "Micronised" means milled to a fine powder.
  • Flavourings and sweeteners. Unflavoured creatine monohydrate can be a single ingredient. Flavoured powders and gummies add sweeteners such as sucralose, acids, colours or sugar.
  • Manufacturing standard. Look for a stated standard for the facility, such as Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) or ISO 22000.

Third-party testing: what to ask for

"Third-party tested" can mean a lot or very little. Ask the brand three questions.

  1. Is it tested per batch? A batch test covers the box in your hand. A one-off test of an early batch does not.
  2. Who tested it? An independent laboratory, not the manufacturer.
  3. What does the certificate show? The batch number, creatine content or purity, and results for contaminants such as heavy metals and microbes. Creatine certificates often also list creatinine and dicyandiamide, by-products of how creatine is made.

Match the batch number on the certificate to the one on your pack. If you compete in a drug-tested sport, a certificate of analysis is not anti-doping screening. Look for a product in a named anti-doping testing programme and follow your sport's advice.

How to work out price per 5g

Serving sizes differ, so pack prices do not compare well. For monohydrate, compare the cost of 5g. For other forms, convert to grams of creatine first.

  1. Multiply the grams per serving by the servings in the pack.
  2. Divide the pack price by that total.
  3. Multiply by 5.

Use the price you will actually pay, one-off or subscription, from each brand's own site.

Who should check with a doctor first

  • Anyone with a kidney condition.
  • Anyone pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Anyone taking medication or with a medical condition.
  • Under-18s. The claim is for adults, and Verve's creatine is not suitable for children.

Do not exceed the recommended daily intake on the pack.

Verve Creatine Monohydrate stick packs

Against the checks above:

  • Creatine per serving: 5g of creatine monohydrate per stick, one stick a day. That is above the 3g condition.
  • Ingredients: one. Unflavoured, no fillers, no sweeteners.
  • Purity and mesh: 99.9% pure, 200 mesh.
  • Testing: every batch is tested three times by independent laboratories before it ships. The three certificates for your batch are available from hello@vavaverve.com. It is not in a named anti-doping testing programme.
  • Packs: 28 sticks (two packs of 14), or 14 sticks as a one-off purchase. No loading phase.

Creatine increases physical performance in successive bursts of short-term, high intensity exercise. The beneficial effect is obtained with a daily intake of 3g of creatine, and the claim applies to adults performing high intensity exercise. Take one stick a day in water or a shake. If you have a kidney condition, check with your doctor before use. From your second order, the 28-pack comes in a recyclable sleeve rather than a box. The full label is on the Creatine Monohydrate 28 stick pack page.

Choosing creatine: your questions

What is the best type of creatine to buy?

There is no single best product for everyone. Creatine monohydrate is the most common form and the simplest to check, because it is often the only ingredient. Whatever the form, check a daily serving gives at least 3g of creatine, and ask for your batch certificate.

How much creatine should I take a day?

Follow the pack. Most powders and stick packs suggest 3-5g a day. The claim's condition is a daily intake of 3g of creatine, for adults performing high intensity exercise.

Do I need a loading phase?

No. Some guides suggest around 20g a day for five to seven days at the start. It is optional. The claim's condition is 3g a day, which one daily serving meets. Verve's label says one 5g stick a day, no loading phase.

How much creatine is in a creatine gummy?

It varies by brand, and it is always less than the gummy weighs. Multiply the creatine per gummy by the gummies per serving. If the label does not say, ask the brand for a certificate of analysis.

Who should not take creatine?

The claim is for adults doing high intensity exercise, so creatine products are not aimed at children. Anyone with a kidney condition, anyone pregnant or breastfeeding, and anyone taking medication or with a medical condition should check with a doctor first.

How we checked

Claim wording and conditions: the Great Britain nutrition and health claims register. Creatine by weight is calculated from the molecular weights of creatine, creatine monohydrate and creatine HCl. Verve facts: the Creatine Monohydrate 28 and 14 stick pack pages on vavaverve.com, checked on 22 October 2026. Prices are deliberately not compared: they change weekly and promotions distort them. Only health claims authorised in Great Britain are used. Verve makes the creatine stick packs in this guide.
