Another study on people with minor sleep problems, found that 81% of those who took an herbal combination of valerian and lemon balm reported sleeping much better than those who took a placebo. Montmorency Cherry Extract

Xanthohumol, a compound found in hops, has also been found to help improve sleep by boosting the activity of GABA [22], a calming neurotransmitter in the brain. Lion’s Mane

Although Lion’s Mane is more commonly recognised for its neuroprotective and cognitive benefits, it also plays a role in promoting a balanced mood and reducing anxiety.

 Lion’s Mane supports the production of nerve growth factor (NGF), which helps maintain brain health and can reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety.

 By calming the mind, it creates a better environment for sleep. A small study [23] was conducted on Japanese women experiencing various health issues, including menopausal symptoms and sleep disturbances. Participants were divided into two groups: one group consumed cookies containing Lion’s Mane extract, while the other group received placebo cookies for four weeks.

The results showed that the women who ate the Lion’s Mane cookies experienced a noticeable reduction in stress and depressive symptoms compared to the placebo group. Researchers suggest that the active compounds in Lion’s Mane mushrooms, known as hericenones and erinacines, may play a role in these mood-improving and stress-relieving effects.

Reishi Mushroom Extract

Reishi, known as the "mushroom of immortality" in traditional Asian medicine, has been used for centuries to promote longevity, vitality, and balance. 

It’s also been found to improve the immune system [24], and another study was conducted to evaluate the effects of Ganopoly (a polysaccharide extract of Reishi) in Chinese patients with neurasthenia. It was found that the treatment group showed significant improvements in fatigue and overall well-being, with a 15.5% reduction in severity and a 28.3% reduction in fatigue compared to the placebo group. [30] 

A 2012 study focused on individuals with breast cancer found that after four weeks of taking reishi mushroom powder, participants experienced significant improvements in fatigue, anxiety, and depression.[25]
